Credit Card drop down menu not displaying during checkout

I have combed the board over and over again but no luck on this problem. 

I am running Mambo 4.6.2 and VM 1.1.4 (stable)

Looks like there have been several posts concerning this in the VM 1.0 forums but not much in VM 1.1.x  I am encountering this same problem.

The fix I was trying to implement is described here:

When I attempt this fix, the page just 'blows up' and only half the page displays.  I am probably missing an 'echo' statement or something.  I am not very fluent with PHP code.

The fix described in the post above references a file called 'checkout.paymentradio.php' but my install has no such file.  The closest thing I can find is:

list_payment_methods.tpl.php

We're getting pretty frustrated trying to launch the store with Authnet.  For now we are just using the Credit Card via PayPal option but this won't work for us forever as we've already opened a merchant account and are paying fees for something we can't even use yet.

Someone please shed some light on this for me.
