parent and child products - different prices both downloable
(1/1)
thanili:
Hello guys,
i am quite new to virtuemart, setting up my first e-shop with your engine and i have some "special" i think requests / questions:
All of my products are downloable. I have some "fashion designs" and their corresponding "patrons" (like professional designs). The main (or parent) products are the DESIGNS (downloable jpeg images) and the extra (or child?) products are the PATRONS (downloable special files e.g. .dsn files). There is a 1-1 relation between the DESIGN to its PATRON.
So i need a customer to navigate through the DESINGS and have the ability to CHOOSE and BUY (e.g.)
A) DESING_1 - cost: 100 euros
B) DESING_1 + PATRON_1: cost 100 euros (for DESIGN_1) + 30 euros (for PATRON_1)
when he chooses to buy only the DESIGN the download link should direct him only to the DESIGN_1.jpeg
and
when he chooses to buy BOTH there should be TWO download links one for the DESIGN and one for the PATRON (or one with both of them).
I have tried to achieve such funcionality by using parent + child products but when i choose at the parent product (DESIGN_1) (tab: display options)
- use list box for child products
- Add to cart button for each child
in the FRONT END i CAN not see separate add to cart buttons for PARENT and CHILD products.
i can see only one "add to cart" for the child product with the price of the PARENT product. I would like the customer to have the options to choose
a) only the parent product
b) parent product + extra product
is this possible with PARENT and CHILD functionality?
If not is it possible with something like related products?
I hope i was clear enough...
thanks

Anybody can help here? Anyone knows if this is possible?

Were you able to get this done???
i am stuck in a similar situation right now with Joomla 1.5 and VM 1.1.9.

the parent child functionality doesnt work in this way. you should use simple products and have the extra items listed in the 'extra IDs' field in the 'Display Options' tab of the product details in the backend ;)
