sounds to me like either

1. You didn't successfully install VM

2. You have configuration problems in VM config file.

The requested URL /administrator/administrator/index.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request

1st make sure you actually see the file
administrator/administrator/index.php
on your server! The error is the answer in and of itself. IT CANT FIND THE FILE!

Otherwise, maybe a cofig problem where not looking in right tree (home/f/a/c/public_html for example) where your web root is.

That is not what I am asking. I am not asking you to edit a file yet. I am asking if you can FIND this file:

administrator/administrator/index.php

on your FTP

Ya, I didn;t even catch that.

THERE IS NO administrator/administrator/index.php because there is no administrator/administrator folder, and there should not be.

Sounds to me like your config file is adding administrator/administrator/ instead of just administrator/

Is this a problem throughout your Joomla site in admin or just VM?
If just VM, check your administrator/components/com_virtuemart/virtuemart.cfg.php

?? that is my only guess. If it is only VM problem, then it seems like it would be a config issue. administrator/administrator is the problem.

that wont help. administrator folder is for your entire J!1.5 install, not just virtuemart.

You can try uninstalling VM component via Joomla install/uninstall and re-installing, but something is telling me this is a waste of time.

Sounds like the Site portion of the VM Config menu isnt right. try yoursite/administrator/index.php
