no activation or confirmation link is sent to user

Hi,
when user`s register to my site, they don`t get a activation-mail/-link to confirm there account.

I try to send the mails with the php-mail function.

Forgotten password`s oder username`s work fine.
These mails arrive in a few seconds the user`s mailbox.

Only the account-activation is not send.

What could that be?
I´m usind VM 1.1.4.
