USPS Shipping Module - Charging too much

I have the USPS 4.1 shipping module installed. The module works but it seems like its charging customers way too much. For example If I add a sew on patch weighing 0.0250 pounds boxed, here are my USPS module shipping prices:

USPS Express Mail ($14.15)
USPS Priority Mail ($5.40)
USPS Parcel Post ($5.40)

The problem is when we go to actually send this item it costs closer to 50 cents to ship. What is my problem? I've also tried the 5.2 module, it gives me the same results.

how are your product weights set up? what UOM?

I am having the same problem with international shipping. Domestic shipping seems to be ok. Any suggestions?

Put your shop in debug mode.  Post your findings here.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. I checked the debug option in the back end, but I'm not sure what information you need. Do I need to place a mock international order? At what step do I copy the debug info? This is a live site, so I am a little hesitant to have it in debug mode.

Thanks in advance :)

lowmips

You should be able to limit debug output to an IP address. I know there were bugs in VM113 about that, but I think it works now in VM114.

What I'm looking for is the actual XML request and reply to and from USPS.  This will tell us the weights and other information that is being passed, so we can debug.

Be sure to remove your USPS credentials from the output before posting any debug details.

Sehanine74:
The rate returned looks fine.  If it is higher than what USPS actually charges you for a 5oz package to Canada, you might need to contact USPS to determine why.  As for only showing one shipping option, what options do you have selected in the module configuration? Do you see any of those in the XML reply? If you have selected more options but they do not show up in the XML reply, then they are unavailable.  If you have selected more options and they DO show up in the XML reply, then there is probably a bug ;)

Sorry I'm a little late to the party here. Here is my Debug Data. This is for a sticker with a weight of 0.025 pounds and it tell me it gonna cost $5.40 USPS Priority Mail. Shipping module: uspsv4.1 supporting USPS API v3. And if I recall correctly I get the same results on v5.2009.10.03

UnMortal:
Your item is being processed as 1 oz.  The rate returned is $4.90, so the module must be padding a bit to get the $5.40.

Hello, I know its been ages since... but since i am new to the community, I just found the problem now so did you guys found any fix or solution to this high cost international shipping?

I am pretty much having the same problem. (using module 4.2 with with VirtueMart v1.1.5 and Joomla v 1.5.20

I was so happy to get this thing working after few days of trying many things and trying to figure out.  Finally I got this to work and with the U.S, I was happy with the result, but for international specially for United Kingdom even so England and even more so London etc... ;D.  I am just shipping poster that is about 13 inch by 19.  The thing is not even one pound even though thats how i set.  Yet its showing "USPS Priority Mail International ($28.00)".  No way.  That's too much.  Any help please.

Stonedfury

I shipped (on the USPS site) a 2 ounce priority mail envelope to Canada from work and it was 10.88. The prices do jump up a lot when international.
No such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer. I won't ask if I know the answer or found it using the search as you suggested.
