DHL Outside USA
« on: December 21, 2009, 21:10:42 pm »
Has anyone set up DHL with Virtuemart for shipments that do not originate in the United States?

From the module code it appears to be using ShipIt and RateIt which is an XML API for US origin shipments only.

I contacted DHL and they have confirmed that Ship and RateIt are tools for the USA only. Each DHL country is a separate business unit and has their own systems. So this means the VM DHL module only works for the USA.

DHL Canada has provided some information on using rate tables to calculate rates based on each customers rating files. I am looking into building a module for this.

Mwf, have you been able to create a DHL module for Canada? at this time I have the US DHL module installed and it doesnt seem to be working well. Thanks.

elucho,

After looking into the DHL requirements for Canada I believe a rate calculation module can be created. It would be ugly because DHL does not provide a service to fetch rates forcing the use of rate tables by account, which get updated frequently. Their plan was to create a Web Service at some point in the future (12 - 18 months) to remedy it problem - do not know status on that.

So at this point creating a rate calculation module for DHL Canada rate would be a fairly substantial effort that I would not undertake without it being a billable project.

If you are interested in that let me know.

Best Regards,

Micah
