Free Shipping - to 48 states only ( Not HI and AK)

Hello,

I am using the  UPS Shipping module, version 2.0.2009.03.11. and set free shipping for orders over $500, restricted to standard ground shipping.  The problem is that this gives free shipping to Alaska and Hawaii as well.  UPS charges significantly more for AK and HI.

I have searched and a few people have asked about this in the past, however I have not found an answer.

Is there any easy way to restrict free shipping to the lower 48 states?

there's no way to do this as is.  You'd need to put in some custom code...namely, where the free shipping is calculated, check the user's State code, and if it is alaska or hawaii, skip the free shipping code.
