Categories and sub categories problem
« on: October 29, 2009, 12:06:48 pm »
Hello. Can anyone tell me how to do this:

I have a categories (with no products) and then i have subcategories with products. I have static menu (it means that i have buttons, with links directly on top level categories).

I want to have 4 main categories and then multiple subcategories under the main.
I have problems to show subcategories.

MAIN 1

    SUB11    SUB12  SUB12

MAIN 2
    SUB21    SUB22  SUB 23

I want that i will click on main, then it will show me sub categories (in browse page of course) and then products under each sub categories if clicked.

Any solutions ?

Best regards ,Nejc

This is standard behaviour in VirtueMart. If you have changed anything on your site you should describe what in your post. That's why it's never a good idea to just say "I would like to know how to do that too"

On my website (still local), i have main categories (for example: Mobile Phones, Computers...) which are also "parent" menu.
When i click on "mobile phones", i get the main picture, which i used for "mobile phones" and under that i get all the phones. That is 1 option, but not suitable for my website.
What i want is that when i click on "mobile phones", that i get all brands (2 per horizontal row) in little "clickable" sub-categories(brands). And when i click on those little windows(brands), i would like to see the whole list of phhones in that brand.
I'm sorry, if my question isn't very professional. My English isn't very good. I hope that someone will understand my question and help me.

Subcategories are not included in Mynxx theme. There are posts how to add it, just search. And for future posts, it's easier if you state what things you have changed on your site from the beginning, like template.

It was my fault. I messed up with some files. When i make a copy of default and rename it and costumize then worked fine.

Sorry for bad question.

component/virtuemart/
then check out the list category
on category information

make 1menu as parent category

then  create 2menu you can set it up as sub category on parent textbox
select the  1menu as parent

thanks for the reply freakinerick
i guess i didn't explain well my problem, sorry for that.

i've attached two images to show my problem
on image 1, it the way i want it to display when the user click on the parent category(it's the original version of the mynxx from the demo version)

on image 2, is the way my site is currently doing...why is that??? and how i fixed that.

on image 3, that's what happen when i use the default theme

the image you see on image 2 is the image i added for that particular category.

i'm using the mynxx template but wheni used the default template, it shows the childs and the number of products but not as stylish as the mynxx is.

I made a few changes on some files on the root/administrator/com_virtuemart and reinstalled the vm from 1.1.4 to 1.1.3 everything is working fine except that part, not sure if any of those files is affecting this.

what you mean is you want to view the products when the parent menu is selected? did i get it rigth?
if thats the case you want you just need to set the product info in  multi select mode in category box in product list.

are you using mynxx theme? or using your own scratch?
