Australia Post shipping calculator failed, reason:
« on: August 07, 2009, 06:03:29 am »
Hi Guys,
I am aware that there has been a post made previously about this error.
http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=22301.msg112092

However it does not help me with my issue.

My issue is that i cant progress any further in the checkout process than 'Step 2 Ship Methods' as i am gettting this warning : Error: Please select a Shipping Method.

Under the list of purchased items it says:
Please select a Shipping Method!
Australia Post shipping calculator failed, reason: (the reason is blank) ** see attached image ***

I only have the Aust Post Module selected in my configuration.
I have logged in as a different user and have tried different addresses.

I have tried removing the Aust shipping module and trying another module. But this results in the same problem, with "Please select a Shipping Method!" under the list of items...with no methods displayed under that.

If someone could please help me, i would really appreciated it.

Hi All,
It appears the issue was with my host.
I shouldve known when i have to chmod all files to 777 just to get it to work.
I tried a demo store out on a new hosting account...no problems.
So for anyone experiencing issues like i had, try another hosting account if you can.

Hi Napalm

i'm having the same problem with Australia Post. Can you tell me what you found out about your host and why it was not working with them?

Thanks

Hi porl66,

There was a problem with permissions.
You should see above each area you visit in the admin (eg 'edit store' ect) a notification reading something like
"files www/blah/blah_blah/blah_blah/products.php is writable".

Well every notification advised me that the files were non-writable. So to update the store i had to chmod the relating files (listed in that announcement) to 777.

This was a pain in the ass and would mean i would have to chmod every single file to 777 every time i wanted to edit something..

So i switched host and never had a problem.

Hi Nalpalm

Thanks. Do you think you (one) needs to change the permissions in order to add the changes to postage or turn on one of the modules before reverting back to settings?
What your saying would make sense as it didn't happen when I was developing locally. I only get the error when I add a country, not before, but without this selected I cannot get VM to automatically select the correct postage value.
Where did you see the notifications?

Thanks
