Shipping rate does not follow currency change
« on: July 28, 2009, 11:56:44 AM »
No matter what currency a user selects, the price shown on the checkout screen for shipping is the US$ numeric amount, with the selected currency shown incorrectly.  This currency conversion mistake is "fixed" when the shopper goes to PayPal, but it is causing customers to get the wrong idea on what shipping costs are going to be.  While the examples below only show UPS, I have since enabled USPS, and the same problem happens with both shippers rates.

For example.  Here is a checkout screen from my Joomla 1.5, VM 1.1.3 website www.justaddpower.com with all things shown as US$ prices.  The product total is $549 and UPS Ground is $11.01:

Now when we switch to Canadian Dollars, the product prices numbers go up a little bit according to the current exchange rate, but the UPS Ground shipping is shown as CAD 11.01, which is wrong (undercharged)!

When we switch to Great Britain Pounds, the product price numbers go down quite a bit according to the current exchange rate, the the UPS Ground shipping is shown as GBP 11.01, which is very wrong (overcharged)!

You will see that the currency convert bug in the UPS price quote goes through all of the available shipping services, not just the ground shipping.  This but is distracting, and could discourage a customer from buying, especially my UK customers, as it is inflating the shipping cost almost 50%.

Any ideas where to go to "fix" this problem?

Just curious, are these the original shipping modules that come with VM?

The problem is with original shipping modules (UPS in example is VM original) and with "updated" shipping modules (my USPS is the new 4.0 version).  The problem happened when I only had UPS running, and continues to happen with my new USPS module.

This question has been POSTED or RAISED for so long. Seems no one has a solutoin yet. Just thinking who can use virtuemart in a production system under multi-currency situation.

AND they call it is STABLE RELEASE.
I know they have spend A LOT OF THEIR TIME on developing ...
But well ... The best I can use for Virtuemart is a catalogue system. I will CRELOADED/OSCOMMERCE for the real shopping cart...

I also have this issue using the standard shipping module and it is making multi currency un-usable at this stage - has anyone found a fix for this?

Looks like my issue was a different one with the shipping total at the payal stage being different from the one shown on virtuemart. Using the standard shipping module and applying this fix http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=49967.15 it now works fine in all currencies and all the totals stack up in both paypal and virtuemart.

Just to finish up along with the fix above i also applied the new paypal code here http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=49967.15 to show the correct currency symbol at the paypal checkout and the store now works fine with multi currency on all levels. Hope this helps
