Does anyone have any information on this topic at all? Do the developers look at this forum?

there is a shopper group control panel in configuration which is very intuitive and easy to set up.
Look it up and see if you can use it to meet your demands.

Thank you for your response! I know how to set up a shopper group and also how to discount one product (http://virtuemart.net/documentation/User_Manual/Product_Discounts.html). My question was more in the line of this example:

Products: Chain Saw ($ 100), Table Saw ($ 50)

Shopper Groups: retail and wholesale

Now I want to discount the chain saw for the wholesale group without it having any effect on the table saw's price. So when the 10% discount is active, the price structure looks like this:

group: retail
chain saw: $ 100
table saw: $ 50

group: wholesale
chain saw: $ 90
table saw: $ 50

Is that understandable?

sorry, I misunderstood your request.. it was late last night.
you can just assign particular price for each product for particular shopper group
To do that go to product edit pane and at the top hit "list prices".
there you can create new prices for different shopper groups.

I understand that I can assign different prices to a product but I want to discount a the price for one product depending on the shopper group, i.e. on the site it should state the old price (striked through) and the new (discounted) price.

there is no discount option for individual products for different shopper groups as far as I know. but you can add a text into flypage or browsepage which checks shoppergroup and say that this is discounted price if shopper is wholesale.

crap, the customer won't like that!

The problem with just changing the flypage is that the discounted price will not reflect in the rest of the calculations ...

try creating or modifying existing shipping module. I think it shouldn't be too hard especially if you get payed for that.

Again, that will result in a lot of issues, as I would be short wiring something ... maybe there is an API for Virtuemart, then I can just add the functionality. I don't think that it is too hard, all it needs is a field for the shoppergroup in the discounts table and a left join to the price when the calculation is done.

OK, I've created a new shopper group (GROUP A) with a 10% discount, but when I processed a purchase by someone in that shopper group, the discount doesn't appear in the shopping cart.  I have also tried setting up a specific price for that shopper group on one item using the list price feature, but still no discount appears in shopping cart.  What am I doing wrong?  Or what am I forgetting to do?

maybe you didn't login as a user of the shopper group that you created...
price will be shown immediately on product description page

Thank you for your reply.  In fact, I did log in as one of that group.  But no discount appeared.  In what form will it take?  Will there be a separate line in the checkout that says discount?  Your help is greatly appreciated.
