Joomla 1.5.2 and VirtueMart 1.1.2 : Japanese Language pack
« on: September 22, 2008, 09:56:02 am »
Hello everybody.

I have a really simple question: I can't found any Japanese language pack into the VM language pack.

So:

- There is not language pack ready yet for it?
- There is a language pack but it is not included?
- There is not language pack for this version but the last version with a japanese language pack is ... ?

May someone answer any of those question ?

If there is a pack somewhere, could someone paste me a direct link ?

thanks in advance

Would be happy if someone could tell me how to translate things. How much time does it takes and so. Can we use the former traduction as a base (I mean is there a way to simply take already translated phrase from old translation).

If you can answer me I would be happy to help translating things.

Tks

Rui

1. Make a clean installation of Joomla e-commenrce bundle 1.5.7.

2. Go to administrator/components/com_virtuemart/language
and you will see some folders like admin, checkout, common.
Open each english file and for each of them create a japanese.php file in the corresponding folder, paste the english lines there and start translating.
*I recommend using the english files from the latest VM build, because it comes with some additions (I already did that for my translations).

3. I personally recommend using a UTF-8 encoding, and for each file you should have the declaration fo the charset...if UTF-8
Code: [Select]
...
global $VM_LANG;
$langvars = array (
'CHARSET' => 'UTF-8',
'PHPSHOP_ERROR' => 'ERROR',
...
BUT it is better to use exactly same configuration as for Joomla 1.5 translation files, but in VM you should declare the encoding.

4. Your translated files should be then copied to a separate folder, but keep the folder structure: admin, checkout, common.....

5. Come back and ask for more info

6. Read VM documentation, is really a good place to start.

7. To translate everithing could take a week if single, and maybe less if more people involved.

That;s it for the moment, enjoy
Sayonara :P

Still no feedback on this item regarding language pack for Virtuemart. Did anyone translate yet? I really need it as well - so please post your reply here if you have a translation available.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is it but a few people started this a couple of years back.  From the thread, it's about 90% done.  Maybe someone can pick up where they left off.  I wish I could help but my Japanese is very limited.

Can someone show me where I need to upload this file to get it working in VM? 90% done is better than none.  Also, in the thread, the user wrote down the code for Japanese Prefectures.  Anyone know how I can upload this?

Here is the thread

Where do you get the english file for translation. I seem to have every language except for the english file in my languages folder..

All I did was install VM, and upload the language folder into the VM directory.

i'm currently, following the advice of this post,
taking the strings from the 1.0 language pack
into a copy of the french file from the 1.1 language pack,
but there are many strings left i couldn't translate for the moment.
if you want a preview when i'll finish it...

I speak Japanese fluently...if nobody has finished/started on this I would like to get this up and running quickly for my own purposes (and everyone else's) but I'd rather not repeat someone else's work. Can someone update me on the status of this project?

Hi there everyone looking to put their Virtuemart front end into Japanese. I have spent the last three days scouring the net for resources to be able to do this and finally cracked it. ::)

Follow these steps (assuming that you already have Joomla and Virtuemart installed) and you can hopefully get what you are looking for perhaps:

1. Install the Japanese language pack for Joomla 1.5.15 from this site into your Joomla installation:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtranslation/frs/
2. Install Joomfish into your Joomla installation and configure it through its control panel. Make sure Japanese is recognized.
3. Go to Extensions > Language Manager and set Japanese as site default language
4. You need to install the Joom!Fish Content Element Installer for which details can be found in Step 8 of this site:
http://www.joomlahackers.net/virtuemart-tutorials/definitive-guide-for-joomla-virtuemart-joomfish.html
5. Go to Joomfish Language Manager and select the order
6. Go to Module Manager > Language Selection and choose your preferred settings
7. Use the Joomfish translate section to adjust any parts that Virtuemart cannot recognise.

Good luck. Here is my site where I managed to switch to Japanese, with English as a secondary language. www.silkroadvoyages.com

nordomograph,

Two points;

1. Following the procedure that I described above, I have achieved mostly a complete Japanese front-end. I didn't have to create any special files as such.

2. I have one major remaining problem; I cannot understand how encode information fields so that they display in accurate Japanese. Examples include shipping service info, customer comment box, address fields and so on..

I would love if someone could help with this.

Hello
I made a full virtuemart translation in japanese on a production site some times ago on J1.0.15

PLease share your VM japanese language files (Yes you must have japanese language files)
http://www.silkroadvoyages.com/ja/store.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=2

ミニ ラグ and 商品詳細... and 数量
do come from japanese language files ;)

and I can easily fix your encoding issue ;)
