Showing all products of subcategories in higher categories!?!
« on: September 13, 2008, 15:19:33 pm »
Hi!

I have a virtuemart web shop with alot of different product categories and sub- categories.

Is there an option in VM to show all products of all subcategories in higher categories?

So that if you e.g press the category car, all cars will show, not just the links to the subcategories. Then, if you press toyota, all toyota cars will show. Then if you press red, all red Toyota cars will show.

The point is, that I want all cars to show all the time, and then just show fewer and fewer cars as you spcify categories by the links in the left side of the page...

PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

funny... I was just searching the forum today for a solution to this, without any greater luck I might add.

Basically I'm looking to change this too, but for another reason:

Using the Admin interface in backend quite often and having many categories (all library categories...  ;D) leads to a strange situation. If I'm looking for, let's say 'HORSE' subcategory I can't find the product in the cat 'ANIMALS', I have to go down to the 'HORSE' subcategory 'manually', in order to view content.

This, I think is a load of horsecr...  ;) Naa, I should be kind... But, well it's not optimal and definitively not very human friendly.

Thanx for adding to my bag of ideas on how to improve my front-end! Of course my customers would appreciate this for the very same reason I would, in the backend.

Conclusion, no one obviously has a solution for now.

If and when I get around to this I will try to make this a reality. Depending on how much work it is of course. C'ause you have to remember: All modifications leads inevitably to a more complex upgrade scenario of VM.
(Today I have to tread carefully when upgrading, with all changes I have done.  :P)

i dont know if this would help me , but i think its kind of similar to what i need: a better way to assign products to categories, i have thousands (literally) of categories, like year(20)/makes(about 30 for each year)/models (about 20 for each make)/engine size(up to 4 for some models) and when trying to assign a single product to more than one category (model), my category listbox changes to a searchbox, not usable since i have many categories called for example "Blazer" i have this category under many years, and if i search the results shows me all the ones i have, and i dont know which one is the one for the year i want, it would be lovely to have a category tree with checkboxes in order to assign products to categories.

Just wondering if any solution to this? ie showing all the products in a category along with the sub category products rather than just listing the sub categories.
Thanks
Andrew

Oh well, Thanks for your reply. You'd think it would be a fairly standard kind of thing.

Hey,

It seems like a great idea. I was looking for the exact same thing. Hope the developers consider this for future versions. Anyway, VirtueMart Rocks! Thank you guys
