« on: September 09, 2008, 20:12:22 pm »
Hi All,
Is there an option to Hide/Remove categories that I create from the category menu - mod_product_categories?
Thanks a lot in advance

Unpublish them?

Thanks a lot ltllzrd!!! :)

Are you on the latest VM?
When I do it, it takes me to the category page, but no products show up.

hi
working with vm 1.1.2 and joomla 1.5.7
here is another solutionto hide plublished categories in the vm menu
in the file administrator/components/com_virtuemart/classes/ps_product_category.php
in this part
   * This function is repsonsible for returning an array containing category information
line 514 just before $query .= "ORDER BY #__{vm}_category.list_order ASC, #__{vm}_category.category_name ASC";
add this

         if( defined( "_VM_IS_BACKEND") || @$_REQUEST['pshop_mode'] == "admin"  ) {
         }
         else{
         $query .= "AND #__{vm}_category.category_id!='9'";
         $query .= "AND #__{vm}_category.category_id!='1'";
         }

where 9 and 1 are the number of the published categories you want to hide in the vm menu

thank you manouch. It's working. But I still have to show the parent category of the shown child category. Other words, I can not show child category if it's parent category is hidden.
anyway it's good!  ;)
one more thing, what;s the use of this command ? ->@$_REQUEST['pshop_mode'] == "admin"
this "admin" means password or username? can i delete this command?

Unpublish them?

Hello,

I can't see my actual categories in the module - there's no way to select which categories you want in the mod.

Am I using Planet Cuckoo Clock Virtuemart? This Joomla component is a pain if you want to sell services as opposed to products. Yeah it's free, but what a headache for service providers.

If anyone has an answer, please post. Will appreciate massively. Thanks.

hi
answer
you should not remove
if( defined( "_VM_IS_BACKEND") || @$_REQUEST['pshop_mode'] == "admin"  ) {
}

it just means if you are logged as admin (in backend) do not do anything {}
else{hide the category}

if you remove
if( defined( "_VM_IS_BACKEND") || @$_REQUEST['pshop_mode'] == "admin"  ) {
}
your categories will be hidden in the backend ;)

I had the same problem...
I wanted a category for "sale", but I didnt want it to show in the virtuemart category menu...so this is what I did.

Just make an active category which is a subcategory to an unpublished category. This way you can make a link to the subcategory and see all products in here...but the category wont show in the virtuemart menu...

...hope this will help someone...

Hello Forrest,

I have downloaded/installed your mod - "FCs VM Specific Products & Categories XHTML Menu"
I cannot seem to get specific Categories to display in this module without them displaying the "mod_virtuemart" menu... This becomes redundant!
I'm attempting to display certain VM Category links in a new menu module, but keep these Categories from displaying in my "mod_virtuemart" menu...

Any direction is appreciated,
Jim
