Help from Canadians re:Payment Gateway/Merchant Account
« on: September 05, 2008, 16:33:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

Sending this one out to all fellow Canadians related to payment gateway/merchant account for virtuemart.

Am quite new to joomla/virtuemart (am not a coder by any means and outsource 90% of my website design), I am currently in the process of determining what route to go for payment processing for a new Canadian eccomerce site.

From what I have gathered after initial research is the limited options available to us Canadians for Merchant Accounts / Payment Gateways. And being a newbie ooking to peoples expertise here to point me in the right direction.

The problem I am having is figuring out what Merchant Account is compatible with what payment gateway, and what payment gateway is compatible with virtuemart. And if there is any paymnet modules out there that work and are geared towards us Canadians.

Like I said am not a coder and will be outsourcing virtuemart implementation, and due to my lack of skills here would like to be able to tell my designer, we are going to use this for a merchant account and payment gateway as it is already working and not re-invent the wheel.

And as well thinking my other option is to use Paypal Payflow payment gateway with a Canadian merchant account.

Thanks guys and gals! It is appreciated.

P.S...The merchant account / payment gateways that I have came up with so far from reading other posts in this forum as well as another forum, and in order of most discussion.

As well just got an email back from merchant-account.ca and they are informing me that there payment gateway and merchant account is WorldPay.

From what I have gathered Virtuemart is WorldPay compabtible, but if I am wrong please correct me.

Yes it does, there is a bit of fiddling inside after, and i am having troubles getting it to fully work.  There is a external solution that combines the two better but it does cost (http://www.e-commerce-solution.co.uk/).  I want to buy it because as you know no one seems to help out on here and i am stuck but they do not sell a component for joomla 1.0.x and virtuemart 1.1.x.

WorldPay are good though.

Hey Dagstars thanks for the information, also looking at services from internetsecure.com, guess they use an authorize.net emulator for their gateway so hoping this is another option us Canadians have as I believe there is an authorize.net payment module that is set-up currently for virtuemart.

Sorry to interrupt - when you get sorted (or completely stuck!) please consider posting your experiences here: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=45147.0

Hi,
Chase Paymentech is another payment gateway that's available to Canadians.  However, they require a certification process (your store sends their test system a set of predefined transactions, and they examine the result and tell you if they'll let you connect to their production boxes).
I'm Canada-based, and working on a payment method for this, - just about to start the certification process. Once it's "blessed", I'll post it.  I'm not sure if the certification we get will be transferable (probably not).

Hoping to revive this thread and hear from any Canadians out there who're successfully using a Canadian payment gateway / processor.

Are there any using canadian financial institutions with the available VM payment gateway components?

cheers!

Just digging into Beanstream's API.  Doesn't look like it should be too hard to write a bit of php and direct the user to the beanstream payment form.  Might even be able to use the Beanstream payment form in a Joomla! wrapper, so it doesn't ever look like the user has left the store.  We'll see if I'm correct.....

A bit annoying that all I have found so far is silence or people willing to sell their solutions.  There are enough developers here in Canada who should know better.....

Okay, update:

I've got a form self-populating with the customer's billing information, which then passes the info on to Beanstream's web transaction form.  The only problem right now is I can't figure out what the order id is saved in the db as (about to post requests here and at joomla.org).  Once I can get that working, I'll pass that as well as the price as hidden fields, and let the customers see their billing info.

It means the user has to double check that their info is correct, but I like to be thorough.  Right now, I'm running the Beanstream form in a pop-up, as I haven't gotten around to getting an SSL for the site in question, but the next step is to get it loading within a wrapper.  Then to work on how to get it to self-authenticate, as right now an admin has to go in and manually complete the order.  As the store in my own example doesn't do a heap of transactions that's not really a problem for now.

Once all this is running, I'll move on to writing a payment module that runs a server-to-server transaction straight from the store software.  Considering this is my first crack at doing this I'm finding it a lot more fun then I thought I would.....

Once I get the mysql query to retreive the order id, I'll post the form code here.
