Recommend a 404 to my friends...
« on: August 20, 2008, 05:52:35 am »
Hi all...

I'm using Joomla 1.5.5 , VM 1.1.1(about to upgrade again) and sh404sef-15_1.0.11.  Most everything is working pretty well.. but on the product pages, we have the cool new "Recommend to a friend" link - which worked great before SEF and .htaccess addition.

Now that we are following what I think are best practice SEF url practices - heres whats happening......

1.   Regular click on refer to friend, and I get a 404 notice and a url that looks like:  http://www.filipinamade.com/Bracelets/Bracelet-B/index2.php?page=shop.recommend&product_id=3&pop=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

2.  Right click on the link and choose Open Link in New Window... and I get the correct form and the correct product pointer up and all is well...
http://www.filipinamade.com/index2.php?page=shop.recommend&product_id=5&pop=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

Whats going on here and how do I fix this?

By the way...  "ask question about the product" works fine..  no change.  Only the "Recommend" seems to get hosed.  Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

Could you please share your .htcacces file and your sh404sef configuration parameters?

I'm using Joomla 1.5.6 and VirtueMart 1.1.2 and I've been trying to make sh404sef work for weeks without success.

thanks in advance.

Hi Fernando...

I wish I had some big secret to tell you...  we just installed the module, turned off forced SEF during https in Advanced Tab, set the mod_rewrite for .htaccess and renamed the server file to.htaccess, and then turned off Joomala SEF - and so far almost all of it works except for some random items (like above).  We basically followed the tips on http://www.alledia.com/blog/joomla-urls/solving-common-problems-with-sh404sef/  and the normal installation instructions.

Now the only problem that we know we have is some random items causing 404's like Recommend to a friend.   We just don't know where to find any parameters to control the Recommend module as I think it may be part of the core now and only has a publish or not (on or off) control.

We may still go back to JoomSEF -  we used it before and it was excellent.  Why don't you try that one?  I recommend the paid version as the free one comes with hitchiking sponsors in the code... but try the free one first and see if you have better luck.

What problems are you having?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

The problem that I'm having is: after enabling the shf404 every link that I click, it will put index.php together.

For example: my site is on www.mydomain.com/virtuemart/

In frontpage I have the following menu entries:

Home
Company
Loan
Contacts

When I click on Company the URL is changed to something like this: www.mydomain.com/index.php/company

I already tried a lot of combinations on .htaccess but did not get success on it.

Kind regards,

Fernando
