Fly Page Full Images How To
« on: August 19, 2008, 05:55:54 am »
I am very pleased with with VM 1.1.2 but I really missed having the full image on the fly page. The ability to open the thumbnail in a light box is nice but as most of my images are also links to the products home site this doesn't work for me.
So I tracked down the piece of code responsible (just love Firefox with the Web Developer addon) for displaying this image and to be honest reading through it I think it was intended to work the way I want it, I think the developer may have just forgotten to replace thumb with full when he'd finished testing it.
So if you are also missing having full images on your flypage this is what you need to do.
With your favourite txt editor open
/components/com_virtuemart/themes/default/theme.php

Find this bit of code, it starts line 49 on mine.

/* Wrap the Image into an URL when applicable */
      if ( @$product["product_url"] ) {
         $product_image = "<a href=\"". $product["product_url"]."\" title=\"".$product['product_name']."\" target=\"_blank\">";
         $product_image .= ps_product::image_tag($product['product_thumb_image'], $img_attributes, 0);
         $product_image .= "</a>";

Change that thumb to full and you're done. If you're using light box to show full images it will still work for images that don't point to a url.

Good call mate.  I was actually thinking about trying this myself last night.  Now I know it works, it's time to attack the layout again!  ;)

I've discovered a small problem with this. There is no auto resizing of the image using this so if your image is wider than say 300px it can stuff up your layout, this is most noticable in IE.
A little experimenting will be required to find the optimum width.

You can edit the flypage to have a set width and hieght for the full image - just sure all of your images are the same dimensions

This solution does not work for me. It still results in the thumbnail image size.
I also had to change the other reference to "thumb" a few lines below that one.

It maybe that the $img_attributes is storing the attributes of the thumbnail image. Look back through the code to where $img_attributes is created and see if you cvan change it ot pick up the full image details.

Here is the solution for you guys:

Edit this file:
components\com_virtuemart\themes\default\templates\product_details\flypage.tpl.php

This code makes the thumbnail:
<?php echo $product_image ?>

So you can delete that code if you want.

This code views the full image: (With the standard folder for the pictures)
<img src="components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/<?php echo $product_full_image ?>" />

Hi everyone,

Thanks all for the various posts; I have now managed to get the full image in the flypage which is great.  The only problem is it now makes the layout look really ugly as it now has to squeeze the desription into a tiny column to the left (see screenshot attached).

I had a play around with the flypage tpl file but I can't seem to get the layout how I want it which is this:

Product Name at the top,
Then underneath the name, the image
Underneath the image, the product description

Can anyone help?  I am doing this work for free for a charity and although I have not done too badly so far (given that I'm not from a technical background) I just can't get this bit to work.

so so so so infuriating trying to do this...   After reading through about 30 different explanations that non of which worked for me I finally get a nearly right solution...

If you want to remove the "View Large Image" Text then delete this:

   )."<br/>".$VM_LANG->_('PHPSHOP_FLYPAGE_ENLARGE_IMAGE'

You need to take it out twice...  This will still leave the image linkable to the full image but remove the unsightly text

Hi guys,

I am completely new to VM and am trying to set up small e-shop. I have one VM template, sample, but I have a difficulties to replace the sample immages with my relevant ones. The names of images in the image folder of VM are quite long and impossible to remember. Is there a way to change to normal file names?
I appreciate any help!!!!!

Are you sure it did nothing?
Check the source of the page, maybe the image is there but the path is wrong.
