Setting Up My First Store
« on: May 28, 2008, 15:02:31 pm »
Hi there,

I have a fresh copy of Joomla! 1.5.3 Installed along with VirtueMart 1.1. It's all working fine but I need some help setting things up. I've got my categories and products set up and now I would like to enable users to register on the site and start doing online orders.

The problem I'm facing is:
1. I don't know how to set up the user registration so users can access it.
2. How to set up the shopping cart so it's actually usable.

I've installed all the modules that came with the VirtueMart 1.1 Package but I haven't published/enabled all of them.

Could someone please tell me which modules I should publish/enable and how to actually set it up so people can register and then start using the shop.

Thank you for your time!

OK, so I got my store working. I added some products and it shows them perfectly. Is there any way to have the products display in a list format rather than the picture and info and all that?

For example:

Category: Apples
1. Granny Smith              Quantity Box         Add to Cart
2. Pink Ladies               Quantity Box         Add to Cart
3. Fuji Apples               Quantity Box         Add to Cart
4. Breaburn apples           Quantity Box         Add to Cart
5. Royal Gala Red Apples     Quantity Box         Add to Cart

you would need to edit your template files to remove the pictures etc and rearrange it all. you might have to edit a php file or 2 to get the qty and add to cart in that format.

which browse page are you using?

No man. There's no need for a freelancer. This is basic configuration. Anyone who has successfully set up a VirtueMart store should know ho to.

Aside from editing PHP files to modify the way the shop looks, I'm also in need of help on the first topic.

How do I add a link to my menu so users can register to use the shop. I tried the default registration but the fields are just basic fields. I want the full registration page where the user adds his/her credit card details and shipping address etc.

I managed to get the shopping cart to work. No problems there.

do you have the joomla login enabled? You need to turn the joomla login module off, and publish the vm login module, that way vm can collect all of the necessary data at login.

Can you please tell me how to do that? I'm pretty new to both Joomla! and VM. I use to work with Nuke-Evo so this is a whole new ballgame for me!

I don't see these modules anywhere.

I see a mod_login but it says it can't be disabled.

can you unpublish the mod_login?

then you will need to publish a vm module with a login form. I used to be the main vm module, you need to go in and set it to display a login form.

www.freshandsimple.net

On the main page is the registration and login for VM but when you click on the register link it takes you to default Joomla! registration. I don't see any of the fields for VM.

OK, the problem was that you had the VM menu item set to registered, so users couldn't get into register until they were already registered. Does that make sense?

I changed the menu link to public and now it works.

If you don't actually want people to get into the shop untikl they are registered, i would try the following:

Create a public menu item to the vm componant, but leave it unpublished, AND create a registered menu item to the componant.

Hopefully the public item even though it is unpublished will allow users to register, but they won't be able to see the menu link to the shop.

unloggedin users WILL be able to access the shop via an url though,

does this help?

That was great! Thanks a lot! It's just what I wanted.

Another question, how do I change the "VirtueMart Login" to Fresh & Simple Login?

I did a text search of all the files but it turned up empty.

Sorry for being such a nuisance!
