get rid of VM from front page
« on: May 16, 2008, 13:28:03 pm »
Hi,

This should be an easy one, how do I remove all of virtuemart from my front page? I only want the virtuemart items to show up when I click on the relevant links to goto the shop.

There doesnt seem to be any Virtuemart module which I can switch on and off depending upon the page.

I am upgrading from joomla 1.13 to V1.5 Ecommerce edition and have got abit confused with some of the new methodology.

I had modules on the old version that contained the <?php   mosMainBody(); ?> so I could just switch these modules on and off to remove unwanted content like this. In the new version of joomla this method doesnt seem to work as you dont seem to be able to have modules within modules. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know as this would help me out no end.

Thanks

This is easy in Joomla 1.5

Make a main menu link to the VirtueMart component (this does not have to be published if you don't want it to appear in your menu). Then go to the module manager and under Menu Assignment select Select Menu Item(s) from the List and then select your shop link from the selection list.

MORE Easy and more quick in Joomla 1.5.3 GO in
Menu ---> Main menu ---> (Item Manager: [mainmenu])

and select which content you want to be displayed in default

and then just click the yellow star in the top area button.

for the result you can see my website still under construction : www.smartcoyote.com

ps: there's no "Menu Assignment" in the last package joomla+virtumart 1.5.3

There is. Open the modules in module manager and you will see. It is used to assign modules to specific menu items.

Just do what was suggested: Menu ---> Main menu ---> (Item Manager: [mainmenu]) because that works.

thanks for the advice but I think Im going mad, I cant find 'menu assignment' or 'item manager' anywhere.

heres a link to a screenshot of my menu manager:

as you can see Iv unpublished all the VM items but they still show on the front page. Can anyone tell me what part of the screen to be looking at to find the Item Manager?

That is the main menu manager. Open the virtuemart module in the module manager (Extensions/Module manager) and you will see the module assignment.

thanks, i see what your saying but I dont have a Virtuemart module within my module manager.

I have now created a new module called virtuemart and tried assigning it that way but all that does is add extra content when that module is active.

here is a link to my site:

http://joomla.atumstudios.com/

it is all the products at the bottom of the page that I wish to remove and get them to show up only when Iv clickod onto the shop.

I may be getting confused and it isnt actually the virtuemart that Im trying to remove but some other module.

I think that is different from your original question - perhaps lost in translation.  ;)

The fix for featured products is easy. Go the VM admin/configuration/site/layout and select Configuration under the theme selection box. On the theme config page turn off "Show featured products on frontpage".
