you need to publish the virtuemart module that you want in the joomla module manager, and assign it to a position on the front page.
Please add your VM and Joomla Version to your signature to make it easier to help you:

Most of my code posted in the forum is for VirtueMart 1.0  -  not for 1.1

If you want to show a module in the main article of your frontpage, you must use a command for that:

Joomla 1.5: {loadposition content1}
Joomla 1.0: {mosloadposition content1}

content1 is a module position, but you can assign the module you wanna use in a position that is not defined by the template (eg: featuredprod1), and then you can use the {mosloadposition featuredprod1} for joomla 1.0.

If you just want to assign the module to a position already defined in the template just use right or left.

Hope this was helpfull
