SSL on shared server
« on: April 30, 2008, 05:02:19 am »
Morning all,

Just a quick question with regards to SSL on shared servers.

To make this work which files/folders must I upload to the shared server? As this all has to be done via ftp I am hoping not to have to upload everything. Which will help in the future with any updates.

From the configuration only the account and checkout pages are set to be https.

Thank you in advance for any help you can be.

To be honest shared ssl is more trouble than it's worth. Customers get warnings etc etc... The easiest thing to do is switch to a dedicated IP address and get your own  SSL certificate.

Some companies do 30 day free trials such as:  http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-products/ssl-certificate-index.html

You do not have to upload files to the SSL server.
Rather you should redirect the SSL session to your 'normal' directory using a symbolic link.
Then in VM configuration you set the SSL directory to the symbolic link you created.
