Quick Question guys.. Would the previously beta hack ( PC configurator) also termed (product configurator) Be a better basepoint to start from with our goals , rather than the custom attributes hack?  I am a frontend designer and new to backend stuff so I am admittedly clueless on that.

It is not realy something I'm looking for.
If my thoughts are right what this PC config. is doing.
You can add other products to a main product. Am I right?
For me this is way to much.
The features that are now in the attributes hack is enough, maybe only adding a color picker.

But it is no problem if it is added to the project.

Let's wait for his answer, if he wants to do this project.
You can allways place it on elance.

Hi guys,

glad to hear we moving forward and bad start is put behind.

I'm also willing to provide a VM install on my server and give an admin access to him if needed. No problem on my side.

I'm also available to help in any way. If he accept the project and hope he will, it would actually be pretty smart to have a test site so we can all try our need on different product and report any bug or make any comment.

i'm not sure about you guys, but i am in Asia, so i might be off line when you guys are on line and vice versa. So don't think i disappear if you don't hear anything from me quickly but i am monitoring this thread very closely.

I just looked at the attributes in VM 1.1 but you can add other products to a main product.
Just put products id's in the "Extra IDs" field.
Or is this not what you are looking for?

I just tried to add a product ID like you suggested before , and I get this error

Code: [Select]
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in C:\Program Files\wamp\www\components\com_virtuemart\themes\default\templates\product_details\includes\addtocart_list_single.tpl.php on line 38
I am not sure if this function is working correctly, or if its a error on my part.. However I am using a new fresh install on a local server.

It works for me, but I noticed the output is not so nice, because of attributes hack codes that are still there in some products.

I've been interested in this, and have been making half-hearted stabs at it, for some time (8 Months, 3 Weeks ago at markcallf.co.uk).

My greatest, sincerest, heart-felt and humble wish is that when it is implemented, it not be labeled an "attribute".  Currently, to add "items" (i.e. child products), you create an "attribute". To specify a selectable property, you create an "attribute". And to provide a text field for user-supplied extra info, you create an "attribute".

In my mind these are all very different things, and can be confusing, particularly when trying to walk a client through the process.

Go ahead and call it "Doug" or "Stephanie" but please, oh please, don't call it an attribute!

Go VM!

Re: Custom attribute Hack IN VM1.1 (Solved)! Almost...

Frett not guys,(and gals) I think I have got a solution coming along for us. I just outsourced the custom product builder project to a developer in India. We have used him before in our business and hes very brilliant.
 ;D ;D ;D
He said it will be like 2 weeks, but he will have exactly what I want built..

That being said.. What I want, is also what is going to work best for you..

So I need two things..

1. someone volunteer to maintain a "request log" of what the desired extra features would be. So that I know what is priority for him to focus on.

2. If any of you guys have a specific need, and want it incorporated in the solution, (or if your feeling generous) than please let me know if you can help cover the costs for this guy. I will be happy to give you his personal information and all so there is no possibility of mistrust.

Right now , he is developing the attributes with a computer reseller in mind, ( as I am) however I don't want his work to limit your ability to use this compnent to fit your specific product either.. So dammit , speak up now while we have a chance to solve a problem we all have, or dont bitch about VM again .. ( I am def guilty on that one ;-) )

Much love to the community of brilliant minds that I have met here.

well, that is a great news Sublimetime.

regarding the log, i would have been more than happy to do it through the first post here; but for the sake of the dev of this hack i have to say it is not possible as i will be off line on and off and some times for up to 10 days for from may 5th till may 21st.
So i am afraid to delay response too much.

I suggest starting a new thread by some one active and who is monitoring closely this dev.

As for the feature that i need; it's quite simple. My site is selling linen so i need a field input text for client to enter their initials for embroidery. So:

  • text input field for users to write words or initial which would add a pre-set price to the product final price.
  • the field needs to be optional for users and input needs to reflect on the checkout page as well as the added price.

So if someone wants to have his/her initial on the linen, they could enter their initial in that field and a fee will be added to the final product price in the cart and the check-out page, as well as showing on the description detail column of the product on the check out page.

As for the donation, as said before, i'll be able to give something.

cheers

Converting the 2.1 hack to VM 1.1 is still going on.
We ran into the upload file and the cart update problems that exists in this hack.
I just realized that I stayed with the older version of the hack (2.0?) for my VM 1.0.x sites. So everything was working for me in those sites.
I stopped following the attributes 2.1 topic when it was clear the developer did not had the time to support the hack anymore, so I wasn't aware of the cart update problem. (loosing attribute price)

The developer I'm working with is going to look at the problems to get them fixed.
Hoping we have a working solution in a couple of days.
I'll keep you updated.

@Sublimetime
I could live with the features that are in the 2.1 hack (price-text-textarea-select-checkbox-file-etc).
Like to be added:
- Prefix (date or random number) that will be added to the uploaded file name.
- Color picker of some kind, nice one is found here http://acidmartin.wemakesites.net/?pageId=ColorPickerXml
You can make your own color(picker) sets through xml files.
- Some kind of editor were you can make/set standard special attributes. Ones you can/will use with different products. So you don't have to type the syntax for every product every time. You just select them in a list of some kind.

I hope that more people who are viewing(1200+) this topic also, are willing to donate. Lots of viewers but very little input.

The conversion of the attribute 2.1 hack is ready.
I'm going to play with/test it more today to see if there are any bugs in it.
So I expect to place it on the forum some time tomorrow.

The update cart problem is solved.
The upload file is working.
Uploading did get some extra's:
1. date prefix is added to the saved filename. Uploaded filename is showed in the cart, without the prefix.
2. default values for file uploading can be set in VM config(extra tab added), defaults values can be overrulled through the attribute definition you place with a product. Upload directory can be set outside the website root(security reasons), you set default directory location in the VM config.

Yes, it is great guy to work with.
Good communication and allways prepared to add his own thoughts in a project.
To make it better, or add some extra's.
Reasonable prices also.
I asked if I could mention his name, and that was ok.
He is active on this forum, his name is Joseph Kwan.
Do a search and you will find him here on the forum.
