Hi there,
I am troubled by a pretty slow VM-site, even though the server is pretty fast. It's about this piercings online shop.

At the website optimization tool is says that the homepage has only 78 K HTML code, yet it's very slow (35.72 seconds to download on a T1-connection).

Even worse if you look at one categorie, e.g. ohrpiercings which has only 40 or so product thumbnails on it and the page itself is only 80K HTML code, yet the page takes 38.34 seconds!!! to download at T1 1.44Mbps according to the above website-tool.

Can somebody help to optimize this site?

I too am having performance trouble with VM 1.1.0 on J 1.5.3 and sh404SEF but performance was slow before sh404 so i am confident it is not that component.

I just had the same problem with vm 1.1 and finally realized what it was.... though I'm not sure what to do about it. All I did was un-publish the category tree (module) that was in the left column, and bam, I'm at lightning speed again... the problem is.. I need that product tree!! Sooo.. I played around with the types of menu's and tree's available in that module and found one that was both appealing and fast.

My original setting was on linklist, now it's on TransMenu. Try there before ripping your hair out.

I have this exact same problem.

My site can take 20 seconds to load initially, then it runs fast due to caching.

When I turn off the link list category module (with about 50 categories) it runs at top speed again!

Is there any way to speed up link list or is it just making too many requests?

generally slow speed depends on many factors... too many queries to the db, images to heavy and a webserver generally that host too much websites on the same machine.

I suggest to decrease color images using .gif saving, use "small" (px dimension) gif images and eliminate modules non estremely necessary.... generally something like "scrolling products" or similar give the user more problems than advantages.
Then, checking your db with phpadmin i suggest to "optimize" every 15 days to prevent problems during queries.

At last, remember that not only VM affects speed but also joomla or both together....

I found that the only way to speed up my site from taking 60 seconds to load was disable the category tree in the left hand menu.

In the end, I decided to create a new menu and manually link to the 50 or so main categories.  That way it loads my pages instantly.
