Please go to my test site, find 'Nice Saw' (which is an out of stock item) click 'Notify Me!' you get redirected to a page to write your email address to be notified take a look at the right column, VirtueMart Module for some reason number of products next to the categories is shown. I have 'Show the Number of Products?' disabled.

Yes, I see that on your site. Also if I then go to buy a hand shovel it will not let me add to cart as although I have selected the attributes - and on my second attempt to add to cart takes me to the "notify - enter email" page.

I have not yet installed 1035

Hand Shovel, is out of stock, instead of 'Add to cart' button it should show 'Notify Me!' however if you are using FireFox you won't see the button changing it is a bug reported here.
