Rights & Roles
« on: March 26, 2006, 06:13:03 am »
VirtueMart is great! But to transform to a much more widely accepted software it really needs advanced rights& roles managment tool.

This means that Groups of shoppers should be defined by Admin and he should be able to assign different rights to those groups - HIMSELF.

Just an example. Usually merchants hire a special staff for adding images to products etc. They cannot give STORE-ADMIN rights to there persons because the risks are great

But if it is not possible to make such an arrangement, most of them cannot use software effectively.

Is such RIGHTS & ROLES management in plans?

I would be able to offer my help in analyzing the bet stores that exist so far and formulate exact requirements for customer RIGHTS& ROLES.

I hope to get some replies in this thread.

P.S. What about an affiliate program? Is it possible to enable it now? If not, when is it planned?
Sincerely,

Hello,

a better rights & role management is planned.
VirtueMart already has a Access Control System. Users can be assigned to user groups like "demo", "shopper", "storeadmin" and "admin". The groups can be given rights to execute functions and access certain shop modules.
But currently the groups are hardcoded, means you can't just add a shop user group by a form.

Maybe you could investigate on how to improve the current rights&role system.

The affiliate module in VirtueMart should be removed, because it's not what an "Affiliate System" is meant to be. It's just too buggy.
Either we remove it or someone improves it.

Soeren, I will definitely make some particular suggestions on how to improve the Rights & Roles

The first thoughts on the subject.

Every parameter of the product should have 0 or 1 for given group of users, which means that they can or not change it. After it is implemented, we may think of assigning the same things to the categories.

This will help to allow some employees to get access to the shop for modifyng information. For instance, change descriptions and upload images.

The second very important thing is access to Orders section - here more development is needed.

But the first thing which can be done is to set a flag 1 or 0 - if group is allowed to change the status of the orders.

If these simple flags are introduced, the shop will become much more flexible.
