Paypal standard not auto redirecting

Hi,
 I have given up on Express and switched back to standard for checkout but when you get to the end it does not auto redirect to paypal.  You get the message saying please wait  to redirect but nothing happens and you have to click on the link to actually carry on to paypal.

How do I fix this, though I would much rather use express with everything else disabled but that does not seem possible at all.

Often such a problem is due to one of the following:
- mixed http/https content on the checkout page (might screw up the javascript redirect)
- a third party 'One page checkout' plugin which is not up to date with the latest VirtueMart version
- a template which uses outdated overrides of the original VM checkout.
