From Development to Production (dev to prod)
« on: December 27, 2005, 21:21:55 pm »
I didn't not see this topic addressed in the Forums, so forgive me if there is a thread already completed.

I have installed Joomla e-Commerce Edition 1.0.4/1.0.1, with sample data, and have realized I would rather have the site in dev for awhile until the CSV product upload, and checkout, are tweaked and the site is ready to take orders.

It is currently deployed and set up under the live domain, and I would like to switch it to a development subdomain using DNS changes, going from http://www.livedomain.com/ to http://livedomain.otherdomain.com/, by DNS.  The db, deployed site, and files will not move... no replication is needed.

What changes are needed, in the root configuration.php file and elsewhere, to make this change occur so that the site operates under http://livedomain.otherdomain.com?

Hey Todd,

We had done something similar to what you are asking, but our site was initially installed on the subdomain first at jeff.gamepowersys.com, then when we were ready to move it (replacing our existing non-Joomla/VM site) to www.gamepowersys.com, our hosting company handled the move for us.  I am running Joomla 1.0.8. VM 1.0.5 and SMF 1.1RC2.  I had to make a few changes manually to the configuration.php file in the root of Joomla and the virtuemart.cfg.php file in administrator/components/com_virtuemart (namely anything that contained an http://jeff.gamepowersys.com reference to the new http location) in both files.  I think I also had to modify my SMF configuration file as well, re-import/sync users with Joomla and SMF, undo patches, redo patches and that was pretty much it.  In both cases, the same database is used.

If you are hosting with a third party, you will have to discuss with them how easy this can be done.

Hope that helps  ;D

Cheers
Jeff
