Publish category images on homepage
« on: July 21, 2018, 21:26:39 pm »
Hi, could someone tell me where to find a walkthrough to publish category images on a homepage?

Using Joomla! 3.8.10 + VirtueMart 3.2.14

Tried all kinds of settings but images don't show, all products are fine.
Attached my vm config and category settings and menu settings.
Guess it should be in here....

Thanks in advance,
Pas

Perhaps a template problem ?
Do you use category root as shop home page or virtuemart home view ?
Try one or other, if this help

I set home as special articles and use some modules and custom html.
Would be nice to add the categories images in the same way.
Or should this be done faster with custom html module?

Did try your menu suggestion and this shows categories, but this doesn't show subcategories,
also when select main category the subcategories images are not shown.
Also you can't select and order categories.

Reason for asking, I want to present categories in nice images 3x3 or 4x4 blocks.
A module should be nice to fit in different pages with options to select the categories ;)
example attached this is 2 images wide.

Thanks & regards,
Pas

If you really need a specific render, it's better to use HTML directly, you loose more time to try to achieve this using a category module, especially if you only need this in home page

Thanks! I agree will be much faster/flexible in html.

To show subcategories images in category page, should this be done easier in html?
Or can this be done in vm config/ category settings?

example:
category= shoes
show descrition + subcategory images women, man, kids

Thanks and regards,
Pas

If you want each time another render, it's more flexible to use directly HTML, but i always try to use template overrides when i can.
It's your choice not my, i only can give you advise, but i cannot do your work.

Thanks, I tried to find some info about these settings in latest version but it's pretty hard to find.
Guess for main categories on home page html is best solution.

Where can I find settings to display subcategories images only on main categories?
I a bit confused because there's so many places where settings are done; menu, vm config, template(override)
And could not find instructions on recent version.

Thanks,
Pas

See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=137598.0

And if there is not a config for it (which there is not for "display subcategories images only on main categories") then it should be handled using template overrides.
