Hi there,

I installed a fresh VM 3.2.2 in a joomla 3.7.2. running on a php 7.0 and so far everything's fine on admin, without error messages.

The problem is that the VM Front page menu item leading on a blank page.
I can see the VM only if I change the menu item instead of VM Front Page to VM Category Page or vendor detail.

Any idea how to appear?

Thanks.

The old front page menu item is deprecated and has been replaced by category layout. Within the menu options for a top level category you now have advanced configurations, so you can better select what you want to appear on the "front page".  This is now shown in current version menu options.

Thank you.  Perfect! I choose "Top Level Category" and from menu item option I have the same settings as on shopfront configuration VM.

Ok I found this post but I don't see how with all the advanced configurations that you can just have a blank front page? So one could perhaps add their own content like modules, articles, pictures?

Thanks for you help. Although the article front page has a slight drawbacks and lots of info that needs to be deleted for a clean page. I cannot get rid of the title page heading. I am also using a .gif on this page. and when it is inserted into the article it shrinks the gif a bit probably because it is inside parameters?  I have also tried a straight up URL and linked it to the original front page? I don't know if that is defeating the purpose.  I am assuming this front page does not exist if I change my existing top level "front page" to another type of menu item?
Is there a menu item that will let me have a nice clean page with no parameters?  I can use a module and assign it to a new top level menu if I have a blank page?

I get the impression that you have very little experience of working with Joomla - maybe because you jumped straight into VirtueMart, which really is just one of the hundreds of extensions that can run on the Joomla platform.

I suggest that you install Joomla with its sample data to learn and see what the native platform can do. It is very powerful and flexible.  https://downloads.joomla.org/

There are documents to help on the Joomla website ( https://docs.joomla.org/Portal:Beginners ) and many YouTube videos courses, eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpBGeHkfXpc

Most of the websites I build have Joomla article content as well as pages using extensions such as VirtueMart.

Kelvyn Thank you. I will take a look.
Trust me I feel like a nooby about half the time!  :)   It just seems like there is no menu item except for "front page" (vm) that does not have content on it already.
Is there a reason it was deprecated?

My apology for bugging you guys with such trivial nonsense. I just don't want to make one wrong move and destroy my website.

Again thanks for all your help

@bpos in Joomla you usually create an article first and then create a menu link to that article...

Thanks for the reply guys. But there is a difference between vm front page and article menu. I will look at styles Studio42 thanks.

Getting rid of the title heading in articles is an issue. But article menu will work. The title is difficult to override because it is <h1> tag.

Do you think you will do something with the vm front page in future releases?  I may just run with it for a while longer.

Or maybe the better question to ask is.. is there a reason to get rid of it?

jenkinhill

Not displaying article titles is not a problem. There is a setting for that in the options tab for each article and also in the options tab for each Joomla menu link to an article.

Removing / not displaying headings in VirtueMart and other extensions is handled differently, usually by css (style) overrides or (less often) template overrides
