Custom Field Generic or Multi Variant

Hi y'all

I would to set a custom field whereby the colors are specific to an item type, for example lets use a car: there's ford and toyota. the Ford has white, green and grey while the toyota has black, pink and yellow. So id like to have a drop down select list where when a customer selects the type of car eg ford it'll then populate another list containing all the colors particular to ford only.

car type-->Ford-->White, Green, Grey,
             -->Toyota-->Black, Pink, Yellow

makes sense? Help
