Shipping cost: calculate per kg

Hello,

Trying to do something similar to the following scenario for the shipment costs:

1) Define a shipment method with a minimum default cost of €5 for 0-5kg. (Many products do not have a weight defined so that will be the final shipping cost.)

2) If order weight is above 5kg (i.e. for products which have weight defined), then add €1 for each kg. So a 7kg order will cost €7 to ship.

Is the above scenario doable in VM without any extensions?

yes, just create two shipmentmethods

One shipping method for up to 5kg I presume. But then I don't see how a 2nd shipping method would calculate a different price for each extra kg added.
