Hi GJC Web Design,
Not really, my site is in spanish, and I installed the spanish version of joomla and the translation for virtue mart, thats why gets accent.

GJC Web Design

Ah .. understood

I don't really see any solution apart from picking the most common spelling .. the "search" is done by JS chosen and it looks directly in the rendered select for matches

You can try this: Go to VM 'Configuration' > 'Countries' and unpublish Mexico. Then add a new country and name it México with the same settings as the original. Keep the unpublished original as a backup. But then users typing Mex... won't see the country in the dropdown list. I don't remember if it causes problems elsewhere if you publish both.

[Edit]
Disregard - the above doesn't work in your case.

However, you could add a Joomla language override using the key (Language Constant) COM_VIRTUEMART_COUNTRY_MEX and the string (Text) México. This way the accent should be kept. But then your customers won't see the country anymore if they type Mexico.

Sorry, but at present I have no idea how to achieve that.

Perhaps simply add "Mexico" and let the old one as it is?
You get 2 result and user have 2 choices, but i think it's really not a problem.
