VM3 is there a option for auto selecting CHEAPEST postage method?

Hi,

Google search didn't help ..  I remember  that back in VM 1.x or Vm2  that there was an option where a module would just auto select the cheapest postage method out of the modules returning shipping prices, basically just auto-selecting that one for the customer.  BUT that option never seemed to work so I had to deselect it  in the backend

I am now using the latest VM and cant find if that option is part of the new version.  I have two shipping methods (auspost and a paid plugin for everything else) and customers regularly either select the dearest on purpose or it is just the default first option and they cant see the SAVE button to save a different selection if they have made it.  Different places will make one of the two cheaper, so its not like the first shipping method is always cheapest.

THAT is why I am asking if and where an option exists in the back-end to have VM auto-select the cheaper method, still display the several options .. but make it so they get the cheapest postage I offer.

Thanks  Bruce

Hi,

Thank you for the reply ...

This is probably a very simple issue that many people have encountered and overcome.

The issue for us is that if you use more than one courier and each one has its own plugin, then the customer will be presented with multiple fee options.  I dont know if they dont realize that they have to select one and hit SAVE or they just don't care, but postage is a vital part of our niche competition, and we advertise cheap postage, but if the low price isn't auto selected, many people seem to pay the regular auspost price, and they may not come back when they look at their invoice.

I thought that early VM versions had an option to have VM auto-select the cheapest plugin price, and a customer could override it and select another if they wanted but there would be no reason for anyone to do so, since the delivery times are all approx the same.

Can anyone help - dont want to do a core hack as it will be lost on the next update.

Cheers,  Bruce
