504 gateway Timeouts

VirtueMart 3.0.8 / Joomla! 3.4.1

I'm getting 504 errors with VM 3.0.8. It happens after installation of the update and using some migration tools - in this last case, Install or if necessary update tables

Error:

504 Gateway Time-out

The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.


But - using the back button, whatever task that prompted the error shows as successfully completed. In this case:

vmdebug vmTime: VirtueMartControllerUpdatesmigration Finished task updatesmigration: 0.0363779067993164

Anyone else? More information:

1. This happens on several different websites.

2. All of which are hosted on Siteground shared server accounts - Grow Big. I submitted a support ticket and the response from Siteground support staff:

3. Adding to this I get a 504 Gateway Timeout when attempting to use the "Install or if necessary update tables" tool. So - this makes me think its something to do with VM.

4. I usually use FF, so I gave it a shot in Chrome. No luck. But in Chrome, there is a package percentage widget and it appears the package uploads fine - then gets hung up in the install.

Its become an issue now because I've got a migrated site that has lost its Virtuemart Admin Left navigation. I found some solutions in the forum for this - but none for VM3 - and none that work for me. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=104329.0

I'm wanting to re-install the VM core to see if it clears up the VM menu issue, but now, after the Gateway Timeout the installation no longer completes.

I have carefully investigated the problem, and tried to resolve it however to no avail. I am including the exact error log related with the timeout :

As a part of my investigation I have increased the limits of your account as much as I could and additionally I have tried different PHP versions but I was not able to resolve the issue at hand.

Well - all I can add is if this was a general problem the forum would be full of complaints about it..

I have installed loads of VM3 on various hosts and never seen this problem - so...  siteground problem?

One work around I have used for difficult hosts - install xampp  - build on local host -- when finished Akeeba it up to the host

I had a very similar issue but mine turned out to be that our SMTP email relay was set incorrectly. As soon as I fixed the proper port the error went away.
