Transfer some information to the cart

Hi,

I've created some kind of product configurator using calc builder component. Now I have to transfer some form values to the cart. For example, these values are used to calculate shipping costs.

Which functionality of VM can I use to place fill out some invisible fields in product detail view and grab the values form inside the cart, without hacking the cart model?
