Custom/multiple setting of recent products?

I'm using vm 2.6.6.

I'd like to display "recent products" on the vm homepage.

I'm also using a gallery module  dj mediatools to display all my items in a grid form, but it will only display items that vm labels as "recent products". Since I want that gallery to display "all" items, while I want the vm page to show only that that are recent, can anyone suggest a solution?

For example if I set recent products to something infinite in the CP, is there a way to override that with something more finite specifically for the vm homepage display?
