Related categories, open in same window (remove target="_blank")

The related categories in a product page, open in a new window (by using target="_blank").

I found the file responsible for this is components/com_virtuemart/sublayouts/customfield.php (line 627)

Is there a simpler way to change this behavior? Rather than overriding a 33KB template file for changing one line of code?
