Full installer includes Joomla 2.5 with VirtueMart 3 installed messed up

Hi.
I am new to this but not to installing applications.
I have installed the above today, with the sole purpose of using VirtueMart. So far I find most of the menu links such as :
http://donot.countmeout.info/index.php/starters
Which I have populated with one item, will appear without any style. If I click any unstyled links such as "Cart", I get :
http://donot.countmeout.info/donot/index.php/cart
The 404 Not Found
I am prepared to believe this is my fault but I can't see how.

Can anyone enlighten me concerning this mess? Please?

for some reason your root url is http://donot.countmeout.info/index.php

but all JS & css is looking for  http://donot.countmeout.info/donot/blah-blah.css
