Virtuemart issue with email and order status

I know this topic has been around for years but I have not found a working solution in any of the topics and when I went to reply the system recommended I start a new topic. As stated in many other topics Virtuemart is not sending out its emails but some things to add are

With Paypal it sends back that the order is confirmed but the log box (http://puu.sh/bBzoy/33a63466b1.png) is not updating to send out to the customer and when you try and manually update it just loads a blank page with the URL (https://{OURSITENAME}/administrator/index.php)

With  Purchase order that box adds a line where it still says pending but that it has notified the shopper but I have received no email.

We have many other older versions of virtuemart that we have not had this issue with. This tells me it has to be a glitch in the newer version. Any idea how to fix this.

if you can't manually update an order one assumes the payment plugin can't either?

Isn't there loads of posts with this "status update fails and leads back to admin root"?

php version or memory or something? vendor problem?

If there are I can not find them. I even tried using your terminology and nothing. If you know of a post that is the key that would be appreciated. I believe your right though.

Thank you for the link but that is not able to help. It seems to be a similar issue but the only solution posted is no help. Where are the VM developers come on guys you need to have a working system here.

In Virtuemart Configuration - which settings do you have for:
1. Default Order Status to send email to shopper (Configuration > Checkout tab)
2. Default Order Status to send email to vendor

Also you might check if your vendor email and the email set in your PayPal account are identical.
