Changing Product Category Sorting in Menus from Alpha to List Order?

I am a veteran techie, but still a relative newbee to both VirtueMart and this forum. So, having done my best to look for the answer and try to figure out where to post my question first, please be kind if I missed something :P I'm always open to correction.

I just changed my VirtueMart Template to VirtuePlanet's SuperMart. It has a menu system which they call "Hybrid Mega Menu", which populates the whole menu using the product categories. I have categories 3-deep and everything is ordered like I want it to appear in the shop menu. Problem is it all appears in alphabetic order instead. I can find no settings in either VM nor the template to change it to sort by item order. I did find this old thread, but it seems to address and older version of VM than 2.6.6:

http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=65741.msg222300#msg222300

I can't find any module named vm_transmenu, and while I'm no stranger to php, it bugs me that such common settings rely on changing a line of VM code. Such stuff can go away after an upgrade. I'm not even sure whether I'm dealing with a VM core problem or a vendor specific template issue, but  wouldn't have posted this if I didn't suspect VM first.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As this appears to be a 3rd party menu to a commercial template you need to ask the builder of those extensions

VirtueMart's default category menu module (VM - Category Menu) lists the categories in the numerical order shown in the Ordering column of the Product Categories tab in the backend. This BE list can be re-ordered as required to change the front end displayed menu list.

If this is not what is happening in your menu module then you should ask Jumbo on VirtuePlanet.
