How do I get products to display on homepage sorted by category?

Hi folks. Currently I am using the "VirtueMart Products" module to display Featured Products on my homepage, but I actually want to display different categories on my homepage, for instance (on my website)

Hanging Terrariums -
with a few products shown, and

Geometric terrariums -
with a few products shown.


I can't figure out how to do this in a similar style to the featured products. Is there an extension for this or something? I thought it must be pretty integral to any e-commerce site.
