Add to cart quantity exceeding stock level

If 5 pcs are in stock the customer gets the normal add to cart buttons with 1 pc defaulted. If the customer increases the qty to 10 and clicks Add-to-card, there is no blocking and the popup confirms 5 pcs added to cart with the relevant message. This is not always good. Is it possible possible to limit the qty to the current stock level when increasing the quantity in the add to cart buttons, or is there any other way of politely preventing a customer to add to cart if the requested order qty exceeds what is in stock?
