can someone explain me what is meant by com_virtuemart.2.0.24c.Updater.tar.gz - is this a normal update or is this for the AIO-Installer?

That is a "test" package for fixing category sorting that some users experienced. See around http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=120459.msg410909#msg410909

Wait for a full release to follow (2.0.22d) soon unless you need an immediate category fix as this has further enhancements.
