I was very happy to read that 2.0.24a has some cache support. But it still says "Joomla cache is active, you should disable it." in configuration. Is it just old message that is not actual or we really need to turn off joomla cache.

I am using conservative file caching, because if I turn progressive site is unusable (pictures not always loading, products jumping from one customers cart to another..). Sure now site is very slow, but at least works :)

Is there a real working solution to speed up joomla and virtuemart ?

Actually an old message. I added the message. After a week someone had a good idea and I just wrote it and forgot to disable the message.

Use conservative Caching. The progressiv Caching is quite nonsense except you have a page with not a lot users and they browse all the time on your page.

Just interesting to know what changed in 2.0.24a to support conservative caching ?

In daily use I do not see any difference in speed. Conservative caching was ON on older versions also and VM worked the same. Sure there is a possibility that I am missing something.

I am thinking maybe we can use with VM some aggressive approach like TMPFS (all web site together with all scripts and PHP in memory). In my case I would be more than happy to buy additional RAM to make things faster, because slowness drives me crazy :)

A little bit off topic but re speeding up J/VM

I've been using http://farhadi.ir/projects/smartoptimizer/ for over a year now on multiple sites and it makes a huge difference on Google http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ often a 50%+ rating increase

e.g. on a VM cat page

It dev is discontinued but it is a very simple script and it works

Have tried quite a few joomla optimisers and had problems with then all..

this test site has very few products and no other optimisation but there is a marked improvement in load times with the script in place

have seen the same improvements on clients sites

Just tried it with conservative caching on and off - no difference
