Hi, trying to figure out configuring Joomla & VM2. It's all a bit user unfriendly and illogical. Long time WP user so maybe im biased. Anyway -

I have a slider module for which i ticked 'main menu' > 'home'. Because I only want it to show on home.

Virtuemart is assigned to home too. The slider shows up on every product page etc. because they all have the same itemid.

This i still understand. Until the hidden menu explanations i've read here. When I make a hidden menu and move virtuemart to there, my main menu is messed up. I just dont undertand how this works? Can someone explain this to me step by step?

Hello rdb1,
The hidden menus can be a little confusing.

For my sites, I use Advanced Module Manager by nonumber to control what to show or Not show on a page.  I believe the free version will let you have a module to only display on the home page.
http://www.nonumber.nl/extensions/advancedmodulemanager
Once you install it, open up your slider module, there will be a new Module Assignment option on the right. Click Module Assignment , then click on Homepage. Save and your done. The Slider Module will now only display on the homepage.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

This plugin:

Doesn't work on my Joomla! 2.5.9. It says I have to upgrade to 2.5.10 or higher. However, Joomla admin says my version is the latest one. Very weird.

I have read the documentation, hoewever i cannot find this specific problem I am having:
Virtuemart has and itemid, and because virtuemart is on the homepage, home has the same itemid as all virtuemart pages. Because of this, my slider module shows on home and all virtuemart pages, instead of only on the homepage.

Joomla latest version  2.5.14

At least try and look at the joomla pages verfore posting here.

http://www.joomla.org/download.html

Then you might be able to talk to the plugin provider for additional assistance.

jenkinhill, thanks, im gonna try that method.

hutson, thanks for the info, I am a novice joomla user so I didn't know that the 'latest version' info in joomla admin is simply not working correctly - one expects when software says that you're running the latest version, it's true.

For some reason Joomla sometimes messes up the version tracking.  I have seen links on the net talking about a solution, in the end I just upgrade by downloading the latest patch and installing using extension manager.

As for something that controls module display with some great functionality for VM I use
