VM 2.0.20b and *still* on J1.5....

After looking at my server logs, I see I am getting a large number of 404s on images named fancy_shadow_...png.

Upon investigation, I see that these files are referenced in
components/com_virtuemart/assets/css/jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.css (this contains an URI of the form ../images/fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png)
components/com_virtuemart/assets/js/fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.css (this contains an URI of the form fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png)

In the first CSS file, the reference is seemingly specific to IE using unfamiliar (to me) attributes
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='../images/fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png', sizingMethod='scale').  Note that the SRC reference is relative.  Now, I checked, of course, that the PNG files do exist in the relevant relative location, so here's the rub:  the web server logs show 404s for file locations textually to the right of the relative .. prefix, that is /images/fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png - that's an absolute URI reference and hence why the 404.

Looking further into this, I thought that perhaps the JQuery script in assets/js/fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.pack.js was mangling the src value, but after debugging the JS file, that doesn't seem to be the case.

So, at present I'm stumped but am concerned that IE's handling of "hack" AlphaImageLoader does not seem to be handling relative URIs properly (when the URI contains a ..) - unless someone can shed some light on this.  By the way, I tested changing the URI to something like test/../images/fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png and then the 404 error showed a request to just /fancybox/fancy_shadow_n.png, so it became even more broken!

All this means that the fancybox isn't working for me on IE and that the only workarounds I can see at the moment are to either disable the fancybox (acceptable but not ideal), or make the URIs absolute (a pain to manage), or copy the PNGs to the absolute referenced location (better but still not ideal).

Thanks

Mark

Hi Milbo,

Thanks for the reply.

I thought the simplest thing was to use the server logs' user agent information.  So, over the space of 3 days, the logs show over 200 404s for the shadow PNGs (I grepped out just one of the files and the count was 226) - uniqing the user agent reveals 33 separate entries.  Here's the uniqed agent list which shows IE7 to 10 - all with 404s:
