Home page category view

I'm setting up my first store and no matter what setting I choose for "Default number of categories in a row" I only get one. There is a dividing line that moves, but I'm not sure where I'm stuck. I have basic HTML and CSS skills, but I can't figure this one out. Can someone take a look? Here is the temporary location:

Templates
Shopfont settings

And see what you have selected for number of products in a row..
