VM 2.0.14 Cart Attribute absolute pricing

According to the wiki:

I should be able to create an attribute with price 0.00 should be free, in 2.0.14 instead it just leaves the price what the default price is.

Not only that I would like to display absolute prices rather than +5.50  I want $12.00.  I was able to do this in VM 1.x but I am struggling to mimic the behavior in VM 2.x
