VM 1.1.9 - Tax Calculations
« on: October 19, 2012, 18:58:50 pm »
Hello,

New here and need a little help. I'm currently helping to setup an online shop in the UK and having trouble getting the tax compenent working the way I need it to:

If you consider the following scenarios:

If we have a customer in the UK or EU who wants a product shipping to the UK or EU  then he/she pays VAT
If we have a customer outside of the UK or EU who wants a product shipping outside of the UK or EU then he/she DOESN'T pay VAT
If we have a customer in the UK or EU who wants a product shipping outside of the UK or EU then he/she pays VAT

The only option that I can't appear to get working properly is the scenario in bold. Has anyone got any pointers please?

Apologies if this has been asked before :)

John

Are you really using VM1.1.9? If this is a new site you should really be using VM2 as the old version is no longer supported and Joomla 1.5 is way past end of life. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=106866.0

I'd try to help but I no longer have any VM1.1 sites around.

Thank's jenkinhill. I would normally agree with you about upgrading to the latest version(s), but at this moment in time upgrading the site to use the latest versions isn't an option available to us.

I appreciate you saying you don't have any 1.1. sites around anymore, however, do you have any kind of resources (web links etc) that maybe of help?

You could try tax base on eu mode

That's the option we are using, the only thing that is causing issue, is getting the system to add the tax if the customer is based in the UK or EU but wants the goods shipping to a destination outside of the UK or EU.

This is a must, and I can't find much info on the web to help me. I'm not all that experienced in VirtueMart / Joomla Addins, but have a feeling that I'm about to embark down the road of having to write a fix to get over this, which should be fun ;)

I think the tax is based on shipped to address... needs a mod to base it on bill to address, which is the correct solution anyway.

I thought the 1.1 EU tax mode was based on the buyers address which would be correct even if a product is ending up delivered to any other country. ISTR the C&E people describe it as "a triangular sale" where it the buyer is considered to be shipping the product elsewhere even though the vendor sends it direct to the final address.

It would appear that the EU Mode uses the Shipping Address ....
