User Registration - No error for email already exists

Whenever I try to register on the virtuemart checkout I just get dropped back to the same edit address page when I click register and checkout.

I have found the problem is that the email I am using to register with is already associated with another user account, but no message is displayed indicating this problem (e.g. email exists, would like like to reset your password?)

Does anyone know how I can fix this (does everyone else have this problem?)
